ASSIGNMENT DESCRIPTION

As a part of the Creating Sustainable Businesses for the Knowledge Economy (CSBKE) program, infoDev is seeking a qualified consulting firm to provide marketing and communication services to Dar Teknohama Business Incubator (DTBi) in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
 

Scope of Work

A. Market Awareness and Brand Building
The consultant will be required to assist DTBI to increase its market exposure and to establish its reputation as the premier provider of SME support services, including organization of networking events for DTBi clients, prepartion of outreach and PR materials, development and publishing of monthly updates on DTBi website of success stories of the DTBi and its incubatees. 
 
B. Market Research
The consultant will be required to prepare a database in Microsoft Excel of all registered companies in the Dar es Salaam district involved in the provision of information and communication technologies and electronics (ICT&E) products and services. It is envisaged that this phase will require desktop research, visits to umbrella bodies (e.g. Chamber of Commerce; government entities etc) and phone calls to businesses to verify data. 
 
The consultant will physically survey 30 of these companies (selected in consultation with infoDev) to ascertain in more detail:
-Products and services
-Staffing
-Reasons for starting the business
-Types of clients
-The challenges faced
-Support required
-Current sources of support 
-Growth past and future potential
-Their interest in being supported
-Their preferred mode of payment for support (e.g. fees, royalty, equity)
 
It is envisaged that the consultant will develop a respective methodology, including questionnaire design, and conduct face-to-face interviews with selected 30 companies. 
 

INDIVIDUAL / FIRM PROFILE

The consultant will be a firm.

QUALIFICATIONS

The consulting firm should be able to demonstrate evidence of successful completion of similar assignments involving the development of promotion materials, placing of press releases and events planning. The consultant should also demonstrate the ability to collect data, analyze and report on it. A tertiary qualification or certificate in public relations is required and a certificate in market research will be an advantage. The consultant should be able to demonstrate open and collaborative communication style with excellent interpersonal skills, as well as financial and legal ability for contract and budget management.

The World Bank now invites eligible consultants to indicate their interest in providing the services. Interested consultants must provide information indicating that they are qualified to perform the services (brochures, description of similar assignments, experience in similar conditions, availability of appropriate skills among staff, etc. for firms; CV and cover letter for individuals). Please note that the total size of all attachments should be less than 5MB. Consultants may associate to enhance their qualifications.
