Network Member Provides Technical Assistance to Biotechnology Project in Costa Rica

A Technical Cooperation (TC) Project of the Biodiversity National Institute Association (INBio) will assess the feasibility of creating an incubator in Costa Rica to support biotechnology firms. This project is partially financed by the Chilean Fund for Technological Innovation Support for Central America and Dominican Republic, with technical assistance from Octantis Business Incubator.

INBio is a Non-profit association from Costa Rica, whose mission is to raise awareness of the value of biodiversity its preservation and to improve human beings quality of life. This TC project allows INBio to conduct a pilot test on business incubation and acceleration with the technical assistance of Octantis, a member of infoDev's Global Network of Business Incubators and an experienced Chilean enterprise.

The project involves 4 components:

  • entrepreneurial environment diagnosis and identification of relevant international experiences,
  • INBio staff training,
  • design of the biotechnology accelerator model tailored and adapted to local culture and context, and
  • alliance creation and success stories diffusion.

The  project will be executed by INBio, through its Bioprospecting Unit, over an estimated implementation period of 9 months.
