DESCRIPTION
infoDev has received financing from the International Finance Corporation (IFC) toward the cost of developing a state-of-the-art business incubation training program targeting business incubator managers in developing countries, and intends to apply part of the proceeds for consultant services. The services include creating a state-of-the-art training curriculum targeting business incubation managers in developing countries.
SCOPE OF WORK
This training program would target both new business incubation managers with no prior experience in business incubation, as well as offer more advanced topics to business incubation managers that have been on the job for a few years.
The training curriculum should consist of the following 10 modules:
Suite 1: Business Incubation Basics
- Module 1: Definitions, Principles, and Concepts
- Module 2: Business Incubator Models
Suite 2: Business Incubator Operations
- Module 3: Planning an Incubator
- Module 4: Financing an Incubator
- Module 5: Managing the Incubator and Its Stakeholders
- Module 6: Monitoring and Benchmarking the Incubator
Suite 3: Advanced Incubator Management
- Module 7: Marketing for Incubator Managers
- Module 8: Establishing a Mentoring Program
- Module 9: Deals and Financing
- Module 10: Technology Commercialization through Incubation
The assignment includes seven primary tasks:
1) Provide the instructional design for the training
2) Enhance and complete infoDev’s 7 basic business incubator training modules
3) Develop 3 new training modules
4) Develop trainee and trainers’manuals using web/print technology as appropriate
5) Undertake a review of the training materials with 5 experts in business incubation that have not been part of the training curriculum development
6) Deliver a pilot training to 20-30 developing country business incubator managers and make adjustments to the training as required
7) Provide recommendations on the strategy of the training program
It is expected that this assignment be carried out in close collaboration with infoDev’s team of Regional Facilitators who are experts in the field of business incubation and who developed the basic business incubator training modules.
The expected timeframe for completing the assignment is 7 months, starting in April 2009.

- Interested consultants must provide information indicating that they are qualified to perform the services (brochures, description of similar assignments, experience in similar conditions, availability of appropriate skills among staff, etc.).
