The XIX National Seminar on Science Parks and Business Incubators & 3rd infoDev Global Forum on Innovation & Entrepreneurship will open this month with the theme "Innovative Entrepreneurship for the Development - Investment, Globalization and Inclusive Development". With this attractive title, the event aims to become a milestone in the resumption of economic growth of companies after the international crisis and the global center of discussions and presentations of processes and mechanisms that are driving the development of cities, regions and nations.

To Guilherme Ary Plonski, President of the Brazilian Association of Science Parks and Business. Incubators, the combination of events in Brazil will be an opportunity for an assessment of the impacts of the crisis to innovative entrepreneurship worldwide. "It's a belief that innovation and entrepreneurship are essential components not only a prescription for treating the consequences of the crisis, but also structural building blocks of a private economy more sustainable, a more responsive public sector and civil society more profience," underscores Mr. Plonski.

The belief that innovation can help to combat the effects of the crisis in Brazil is ratified by the increase in public investment in enterprises. According to a study by FIESP, there is a forecast that public investment in innovation activities in 2009 will reach U.S. $1.7 billion by the end of the year, representing over $800 million over 2008.

For José Eduardo Fiates, President of the Latin American Division of the International Association of Science Parks, believes that encouraging innovation in Brazil is important to set an indication that mechanisms such as incubators and technology parks represent key sources of wealth generation. "Everyone involved with the issue in Brazil and the world have always believed that innovation was the way to overcome the economic crisis,", he says.

Mauricio Schneki, Adviser to ANPROTEC international relations, believes that this moment of renewal is very profitable for Brazilian companies, because the countries recovering from crisis tend to get new players, generating potential business. "One example is the ICT sector, where Brazil begins to work hard on quality software development and provision of service. In the area of R&D, recognition of the importante of the country is widespread, "says Mr. Schneki.

The results obtained by the births in incubators and technology parks is proof that the more you invest in innovation, the more you will receive feedback, both for the public coffers and the economy in general. According to a survey of Business Incubators, held in 2007, companies born in hatcheries annually generate about $2 billion in revenue, with $400 million return in the form of taxes.
