ASSIGNMENT OVERVIEW

Assignment Title: 1000470 - Technical Assistance for Spatial Data Infrastructure for Monitoring Development Outcomes in Uganda

Assignment Countries:

-Uganda

ASSIGNMENT DESCRIPTION

The Consulting Firm will support a Technical Assistance (TA) component in the area of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDI), as part of an 18-month project, SDI4MDGs Project, that builds on an emerging area of interest for the clients of the World Bank Group, namely, the analysis of spatial data for modeling and monitoring development outcomes.

Countries are now asking the Bank for advice on how to develop sound SDI, i.e., the technology, policies, standards, and human resources needed to acquire, process, store, distribute, and improve use of geospatial data.

The firm will be in charge of designing and advising in the implementation of a TA component on SDI in Uganda. It will be based on extensive collaboration/consultation with local stakeholders with the aim of creating country ownership, consensus on difficult issues, and jointly deriving solutions to developing GIS/SDI in Uganda. The firm will, therefore, in the course of the project, establish close collaboration partnership with key potential SDI stakeholders, if feasible regional GIS/SDI associations, NGOs and members of the statistical community in Uganda. The component will also serve as a mode of transfer of knowledge to the local counterparts. The firm will, therefore, undertake the work in association with one or more appropriately experienced local professionals or organizations with the purposes of transferring knowledge and building local capacity. The assignment will have a fixed budget of $80,000. For more information: /en/Topic.22.html
