This project is part of a broader collaboration of infoDev and MCT to support Brazil’s transition to a knowledge economy and society, using technology for social inclusion and sustainable development, and developing Brazil’s leadership in helping less developed countries to emulate its success.
E-waste represents an opportunity for Brazil to take a leadership role in cultivating a sustainable business ecosystem for recycling and re-using electronic items and reclaiming precious metals and other materials.

ASSIGNMENT DESCRIPTION
Aggregate Global Good Practice and International Collaborative Practices in E-Waste, Identify Opportunities for Brazil and Provide Input to a Strategy and Policy Recommendation on E-Waste in Brazil
Evaluate global policy trends, drivers and good practice in developing and implementing e-waste policies and identify examples and case studies of international collaboration. Synthesize into a framework of reference for Brazil that identifies key challenges and opportunities for Brazil.
The firm will carry out these activities:
o Identify and evaluate global policy trends, drivers and good practice in e-waste:
- Gather coherent and comparable data about relevant legislative/regulatory / coordination initiatives at national and international level
- Gather data of private sector initiatives internationally that may be of relevance to Brazil, and prepare case studies with applicable lessons
- Travel to research specific country examples and case studies as agreed with the Task Manager
- Produce draft and final survey reports that outline the international context and identify opportunities for Brazil
o Stakeholder Engagement
- Identify and engage international experts from international academia, government, trade associations, technology firms, SMEs and entrepreneurs to participate in a stakeholder workshop in Brazil in November 2010.
- Produce relevant international case studies for presentation at stakeholder workshop.
- Incorporate stakeholder feedback into international benchmarking and best practice report.
o Development of Recommendations
- Using the analysis of global trends, practices and the unique challenges and opportunities of Brazil, work closely with the Task Manager and STC on e-Waste Policy and Strategy (Brazil) on providing input to the comprehensive e-waste strategy, policy and implementation advice for Brazil.

- The firm will be hired for up to 50 days during the period of 20 September 2010 through 31 April 2011.
- The position can be based internationally.
The work to be carried out by the firm will be supervised by the infoDev E-Waste Task Manager on a day-to-day basis.

Qualification Criteria
1. Interested firms should provide information showing that they are qualified in the field of the assignment.
2. Interested firms should provide information on the technical and managerial capabilities of the firm.
3. Interested firms should provide information on their core business and years in business.
4. Interested firms should provide information on the qualifications of key staff that will work on this assignment.
