the Korean Trust Fund on ICT4D

The Korean Trust Fund on ICT4D awards grants to World Bank projects and activities submitted along cross-cutting strategic themes. To ensure that there are strong linkages between proposals and the strategic objectives of the Bank in ICT-for-Development, through this call for proposals, we are particularly interested to support strategic flagship projects that are cutting edge and that generate cross-border knowledge and capacity development related to priority ICT4D challenges. These priority challenges include:

  • Use of ICT for economic and social integration of rural areas;
  • Broadband connectivity;
  • Innovative applications in health, education, agriculture and rural development, clean technology and public financial management;
  • ICT-enabled enterprise creation;
  • Mobile applications.

WHO CAN APPLY

Staff members of all World Bank Group (WBG) operational units are eligible to submit applications to finance projects which show the development impact of ICTs in developing countries and which are relevant to the WBG operational agenda. The Trust Fund supports both recipient-executed and Bank-executed activities.

We encourage WBG staff to be innovative in their proposals within the following three themes:

  • Access to ICT Infrastructure and Services -  Provision of ubiquitous, cost-effective and user-friendly ICT infrastructure and services to developing countries, particularly to underserved and rural areas, in a manner that addresses existing market gaps in these countries;
  • Mainstreaming the use of ICT in key sectors – Integration and effective use of ICTs as a tool in key economic and social sectors for development;
  • ICT-enabled Innovation and Entrepreneurship - Use of ICTs to enhance the competitiveness of developing country economies, enterprise creation, (particularly at the SME level), and how ICTs can be used to harness innovation in developing countries for generating employment, economic prosperity and inclusion in the global knowledge society and economy.
