Excerpted from infoDev's Survey of ICT and Education in Africa (Volume2): 53 Country Reports

For more information about this project, please see Survey of ICT and Education in Africa.

This short report provides a general overview of current activities and developments related to ICT use in education in the country.

Contents:

  • Overview
  • Country profile
  • The Education System
  • ICT Policies
  • Infrastructure
  • Current ICT Initiatives and Projects
  • Implementing ICT in Education

Please note:

ICT use in education is at a particularly dynamic stage in Africa, which means that there are new developments and announcements happening on a daily basis somewhere on the continent. Therefore, this report should be seen as a “snapshot” that was current at the time it was taken; it is expected that certain facts and figures presented in this report may become dated very quickly.

It is anticipated that the reports developed as part of infoDev's Survey of ICT and Education in Africa will serve as the building block for an on-line database (in a wiki format) that will be updated collaboratively over time, based on additional research and feedback received through the infoDev web site.

To suggest modifications to this country report, please e-mail ict4edu AT infoDev DOT org or enter your comments below.

for education to strive in Nigeria it must be ict driven.no education is complete without ict, therefore the stalkholders of education in nigeria should embark on policies that will ensure one computer per child in our schools

A country without an ICT-driven education is living in the past. I must say that Osei Tutu's publication has inspired me and I wish to be part of this research periodically posted to this site. ETF, Intel, Microsoft and SchoolNet Nigeria are doing wonderful work in the Nigerian education system. They have touched lives from grassroots and they have changed so many lives for better through ICT in education. More is expected because Nigeria is large.

ICT is indeed a vital tool for any given key to development. Therefore, there is the need to enhance the learning of it at any given stage of education. Many sees it as a new thing simply beacuse been unfamilier.

There is no doubt that information communication technology is an integral part of any development and is increasely in use in every area of our society from the tube stations to shopping online to checking in at the airport from school reports to parents/ registeration in schools just to mention a few of the uses of ICT and how important it has become for development and economic growth. If you gave teachers free computer which I got partly paid for by the governement 10 years ago in the U.K you must put in place proper training and how to sustain and reform it's uses and and the constant and rapid change of its use.
