Excerpt from infoDev's report "International Good Practices for the Establishment of Sustainable IT Parks."
From 1996 to 2003, the Jordanian economy grew at an average rate of 6.1%, and in 2003, the IT services sector contributed 2.9% of GDP.
Although Jordan's IT sector started later than many developing countries, it is still a leader in the Middle East Region in terms of IT development.
The government's REACH Initiative increased industry revenues from USD$170 million in 2001 to $440 million in 2004. REACH also mandated the development of three IT parks in 2003, but it does not currently have any operational IT parks despite a number of educational and structural programs that have proved successful. This excerpt details failed IT park efforts as well as the the path forward within the Jordanian context.
