East African virtual incubation pilot to launch in Nairobi, Kenya

On January 25, tech entrepreneurs in rural east Africa will have access to next-tier business incubation through a new pilot program by infoDev and a consortium of regional partners. The pilot will bring virtual incubation services to rural communities in Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda.

MedAfrica wins Ericsson Application Award

MedAfrica—a Kenya-based mobile medical directory and knowledge app—won the first prize in the Company Category of the worldwide 2012 Ericsson Application Awards, held in late May in Stockholm, Sweden. The €15,000-award is the latest in an outstanding train of accolades for the mLab-incubated team.

Cutting-edge ICT incubator set to unleash entrepreneurship in Tanzania

A new ICT business incubator was inaugurated on October 31st by business and government leaders in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The new Dar Teknohama Business Incubator (DTBi) will support local technology-based companies and other young entrepreneurs with high growth potential.

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are poised to play a significant role in the next phase of ICT industry growth in East Africa. To assess the market and identify opportunities infoDev, UKaid and Hivos conducted a detailed on-the-ground study of the ICT SME landscape in East Africa. This study performed by the Excelsior Firm, engaged over 100 policy makers, investors, academics, donors and entrepreneurs. The report will be launched in Nairobi on 25 February, 2011.
