The report presents portable recommendations for designing and deploying entrepreneurship challenges in the mobile space, including key success metrics, incentive structures, timelines, and follow-up services.

The m2Work project came out of infoDev’s landmark Knowledge Map of the Virtual Economy, which showed the potential of mobile microwork—small, instant tasks suited to mobile phones—for inclusive job creation worldwide.

The first leg, a global idea challenge launched in partnership with Nokia’s IdeasProject platform, drew nearly 1,000 suggestions for mobile applications, of which 95 percent came from developing economies.

In the follow-up m2Work Hackathon, four mLabs and one mHub sponsored by infoDev held an international weekend-long coding fest that drew over 300 active participants and yielded 61 app prototypes.
