Much of the emphasis on climate change has been on urging countries to act to avoid environmental catastrophe. This new report frames responding to climate change as an extraordinary economic opportunity, particularly in developing countries. The report, published by infoDev, a global innovation and entrepreneurship program in the Bank Group’s Trade & Competitiveness (T&C) Global Practice, recommends actions by the public and private sectors to foster the growing market for SMEs in the clean technology sector.

infoDev debuts a new study on the state of financing for highly innovative, high growth start-ups (HI start-ups) in Vietnam, Cambodia and Nepal. The study provides a critical knowledgebase on the landscape in financing in these countries, details major gaps and associated barriers faced by these enterprises in accessing finance and offers recommendations to reduce the associated impediments.

With funding from the government of Finland’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs (FORMIN), infoDev, a global program under the World Bank Group’s Trade and Competitiveness Global Practice launched the Mekong Women’s Entrepreneurship Challenge (MWEC) to facilitate the expansion of women-owned businesses in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Cambodia, and Vietnam. The Challenge provides the necessary tools to improve and grow women-led businesses through innovation, creativity, peer-learning, and one-on-one support.
The report Growing Women-led Enterprises in the Mekong: Testing a Methodology for Accelerating Growth is a knowledge product that discusses the design, outcomes, and lessons of MWEC and provides a few preliminary recommendations for the design of future programs targeting the growth of women-owned enterprises.

This set of reports assesses existing mobile application (app) business models targeted at, or suitable for, people living at the base of the pyramid (BoP). The reports address specific pain points for app developers and provide practical, actionable advice. Their recommendations are specific to each of the four countries: Ghana, Mozambique, Nigeria, and Zambia.
As part of its Mobile Innovation Program, infoDev developed the concept of the Mobile Innovation Roadshow with the overall objective to stimulate the development of an innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem for mobile applications enterprises by introducing business and technical concepts relevant to startups in the mobile industry via a series of short events. The Roadshow was developed in partnership between The Southern Africa Innovation Support (SAIS) program and infoDev. SAIS is a program funded by the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) that seeks to boost innovation in Southern Africa.
