Farewell from Vale...

Farewell from Valerie D'Costa

Dear friends, colleagues, innovators, partners, policymakers, investors, researchers, technology leaders, entrepreneurs, and start-ups:

My time at infoDev has come to a close. I will be moving on to other duties at the World Bank. I have a heavy heart leaving the vibrant and evolving global innovation and entrepreneurship community that I have called home for the past seven years. Yet, I realize the world grows smaller every day, so I am sure our paths will continue to cross in the future.

infoDev has played a remarkable and much-needed role in development. The mission of helping growth enterprises and incubating innovative startups to market is a worthy one. infoDev has been able to pilot a number of new and untested ideas with the support and commitment of the World Bank Group and its donors. It has pushed the envelope to see where development impact lies. I have seen representatives of the public, private, academic and civil society sectors work together collaboratively in many countries, with infoDev facilitating the process. These multi-stakeholder efforts - while not always easy – have been rewarding and have resulted in sustainable solutions.

A year ago, we decided to regularly profile some of the entrepreneur success stories from across our global network, so that we can put faces to the names of the best and brightest future business leaders. They have been a source of particular pride for me. I’ve been so gratified to see these entrepreneurs pitch their ideas, gain international attention, attract significant investment, win global innovation awards, engage in dialogue with princes and presidents, put their solutions into the market, and seek out new business and growth opportunities.

As our innovation and entrepreneurship networks continue to organically grow across the world, I hope you will all continue to partner actively with infoDev, and count on its support. Leading infoDev has been a rich, rewarding, successful, challenging, and very joyful experience. I thank the dedicated team I’ve led for their passion and commitment.

Most of all, I want to thank all of you in our global community for the pleasure of knowing and working with you.

You have my very best wishes for health, peace, and every success for the future.
