infoDev identified as a Leader in Mobile Innovation

Pyramid Research recently highlighted infoDev's contribution to supporting and promoting mobile innovation in Africa and the Middle East.

According to Pyramid Research's "Africa & Middle East Telecom Insider" (Vol. 3, No. 7, August 2011), infoDev was named "a standout place for mInnovation to flourish." Mobile Monday, Tahrir Sqr, and the Nokia "Create for Millions" Contest were also named.

Pyramid Research cited infoDev as being "at the forefront of providing the tools that help inspire and advance the field of mobile innovation" and offered the iDisc global network of incubators as an example. The report goes on to observe that, "In sub-Saharan Africa, there are 66 incubators in 24 countries that are affiliated with iDISC; North Africa and the Middle East have 33 incubators in 15 countries. Most of the iDISC centers in AME target youth and women, and the most popular sector of interest in these incubators is ICTs"  (Excerpts taken from Africa & Middle East Insider, Vol. , No. 7, August 2011: Three Steps to Accelerate Mobile Innovation in Africa and the Middle East).

The report also mentioned infoDev's mobile applications laboratories (mLabs). In order to augment our work in the Mobile field, infoDev's Mobile Applications for Development team has implemented 5 mobile applications laboratories (mLabs) located in Armenia, Kenya, Pakistan, South Africa, and Vietnam. The mLabs are part of the larger Creating Sustainable Businesses in the Knowledge Economy initative. These mLabs provide incubation, training, and testing to local developers and SMEs, helping entrepreneurs take their ideas to market. The mLabs leverage the success of iDISC as a global platform in order to provide targeted resources and support to the mobile community.
