infoDev is proud to announce the launch of the Caribbean Mobile Innovation Program (CMIP), to be held at the University of the West Indies Regional Headquarters, Mona, Jamaica on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 in Council Auditoriums 1-2 at 5:00 PM.
The CMIP is a regional initiative to find and nurture the best and brightest Caribbean growth startups in the mobile sector. An effort of the Entrepreneurship Program for Innovation in the Caribbean (EPIC) by infoDev, a program of the World Bank Group, CMIP is implemented with the funding support of the Government of Canada. The local partner which will roll out the CMIP is the University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona School of Business & Management and Mona Business Support Services.
As Caribbean nations increasingly participate in and are linked to the global digital economy, it is important to support the development of a pool of highly-skilled individuals who can build viable mobile app businesses. It takes a range of actors to do this effectively. For that reason, the CMIP will reach out widely to connect Caribbean mobile startups with infoDev’s global network of entrepreneurs, financiers and technology leaders, to help create the next generation of mobile growth entrepreneurs in the region.
The CMIP will provide hands-on training, skills-building and mentorship to developers from across the region, as well as access to investors. UWI will partner with innovation hubs in six Caribbean countries, to ensure startups across the region benefit fully from the program.
