Second Wave of Students for mLab East Africa

A new group of 25 students is expected to start classes at mLab East Africa in September, 2011. The online application process closes on August 28th.

According to the website, applicants must consider the following factors before submitting applications:

Application Deadline: 28th August 2011
Course Duration & Dates: 4 months (5th September - 31st December 2011 for second wave of students)

Costs / Tuition Fee Structure:

  • infoDev Subsidy over KSh.90,000,
  • Non-refundable Commitment fee KSh. 5,000  
  • Refundable deposit KSh. 5,000 (based on attendance history)
  • Total Cost Over Ksh. 100,000 (including infoDev Subsidy)

NB: Accepted students will only pay KSh. 10,000 for the course

Overview of Course Content (subject to improvement):
USSD, Android, Nokia Technologies, J2ME, PHP, mysql, LWUIT, Mobile Web - HTML5 & CSS3, IVR, User Experience Design, Business for Mobile, SMS, Systems Design

Eligibility criteria

  1. Must have completed a degree program (evidence = final year transcript or degree certificate)
  2. Must be available on a full time basis from 9.30am to 3.30pm for 4 months (between September 5th 2011 and December 31st 2011 for second wave of students)

The selection panel for submitted applications will consider the following criteria

  1. Familiarity with technology, platforms and programming languages (25 marks)
  2. Accomplishments (25 marks)
  3. Demonstrated interest and motivation (25 marks)
  4. Academic background and performance (15 marks)
  5. General Presentation (10 marks)
