GoMetro selected for DEMO Africa 2013

Lineup also includes three Pivot East finalists

GoMetro—a South African app with real-time public transport information—has been selected as one of the 40 ventures presenting at this year’s DEMO Africa tech conference in Nairobi, Kenya, on October 24 and 25.

The app brings schedules, updates, and commuter information to users of MetroRail, South Africa’s largest scheduled transport mode.

GoMetro has been incubated in mLab Southern Africa since its launch in September 2012. In the last twelve months it has amassed over 300,000 users; it currently handles 30,000 service requests per day.

The judging panel also selected three finalists of Pivot East 2013—an annual pitching competition by mLab East Africa—including social mobile gaming network Jooist, virtual product marketplace M-Duka, and SMS-based hotel booking app SleepOut.

The 40 ventures rose from a pool of 300 serious applicants. At DEMO Africa, they will pitch their plans before investors, venture capitalists, executives, media representatives, and entrepreneurs from across the world.
