On March 12, 13 and 16, women entrepreneurs from the Caribbean will have the opportunity to learn how to jump-start their businesses at the EPIC-supported workshop ‘Grow Your Business.’
To be held in Trinidad at the NEDCO Barataria ETIIC Facility by three World Bank/infoDev certified GYB trainers, the workshop will provide participants with hands-on knowledge and insights on networking, market competitiveness, sales opportunities, and more.
The ‘Grow Your Business’ workshops have been designed to support growth-oriented women entrepreneurs in the Caribbean by encouraging creativity, innovation, and business acumen. The initiative represents also a unique platform to investigate the needs of local women entrepreneurs and assess the regional demand for additional events and training programs.
So far the workshops have been met with great appreciation. According to research conducted in September 2014, several graduates have reported significant benefits and have implemented major changes in their businesses as a result of their participation in the training. Some of the entrepreneurs changed their business location, improved or expanded office space or production facilities, rebranded their businesses, built new partnerships and expanded their client base. More specifically:
- Almost 60% of the participating entrepreneurs introduced a new product or service
- 50-55% reported increased turnover as well as increased profitability
- Almost 50% altered an existing process in their business and approximately 35% introduced a new process
- Almost 30% appointed additional personnel
- More than 20% started a new company
The Grow Your Business Workshop Series is an initiative implemented by infoDev’s Women Innovators Network in the Caribbean (WINC) with the support of the government of Canada. Sponsored by Trinidad’s National Entrepreneurship Development Co., the workshop in Trinidad will be the first independent regional event of its kind.
